Sanders Brine Shrimp Company is the world's oldest and largest harvester and processor of Artemia cysts. In 1950, Cleon Sanders, who lived with his large family in Ogden, Utah, near the shores of the Great Salt Lake, began a modest family business gathering and packaging small quantities of brine shrimp eggs (Artemia cysts) for sale to local pet shops where they were sold as feed for tropical fish. Some years later, Mr. Sanders began to supply brine shrimp eggs to a large national distributor of pet supplies. Eventually, with the worldwide development and expansion of the aquaculture industry, the family business grew beyond the borders of the United States.
